Well I think the animation and everything isn't really up to par as well, and a lot of the scenes just don't really make sense. For example, when the dragon tries to chomp the kid, it just leaves like a minor wound on his stomach. This just doesn't make sense at all, not to mention that the 3D model is just constantly infused with this strange fog that seems to drop the framerate of any scene it is in. There are many instances of what I perceive to be just a png or model that just gets dragged along the screen, as well as the constant lack of attention to detail, as I find that many characters just talk with their mouths closed. In any case, this anime isn't the most popular pick, and it's easy to see why you might think that it's a little goofy.

I think it's genius... He annihilates a village, then spares a kid. People see a child being the sole survivor will either put them into an orphanage or adopt. An adult could become a hermit or something, but kids will be taken cared of by society in one way shape or form. 15 Years later when the survivor adapts to the new town/village. Dragon wakes up and tracks survivor, so he'll know where a human settlement is located, without having to search. Rinse and repeat.

it was more to leave a survivor to spread the horror, but the fact that he goes from being an empire killer with 4x the MC power, and not being able to one hit, to a punching back, its kind of stupid. Like honestly the gap should have made MC paste with the first hit. didnt even use abilities, completely lame. Just "power of hope"...

Well, based on the dragon´s characteristic, it did make sense. In that moment, the fear and despair in the towm peoples aren´t as big (and tasty) as in Helen, plus time heightened the terror. The longer the dragon drew the chase out, the more desperate Helen and the town peoples will get, so it´s like letting the main course soaked in the sauce while you slowly enjoyed the appetizer.
